What Are Common Endodontic Positions?
The focus of endodontics is the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of problems affecting the dental pulp and surrounding tissue. Some endodontics positions include dental assistant, dental hygienist, and a general dentist with endodontic therapy, and we recruit them all at Arthur Marshall.
Positions You May Find in an Endodontic Clinic
Endodontist
Tooth pulp refers to the soft tissue inside the tooth that contains nerves, blood vessels, and connective tissue. An endodontist is a dental expert who focuses on diagnosing, treating, and preventing diseases and injuries of the dental pulp.
After getting their dental degree, endodontists complete specialized training to become professionals in carrying out difficult procedures such as root canal treatments, retreatments, and endodontic surgery. They also have great expertise in dealing with dental injuries and treating dental discomfort that is difficult to identify.
General Dentists Providing Endodontic Care
A general dentist with endodontic training is a dental professional who has undergone additional education and training in endodontics.
After receiving their dental degree, general dentists can pursue additional endodontic training through continuing education courses, postgraduate programs, or specialized training programs. Thanks to their additional training, they may now execute certain endodontic operations, including pulp capping, root canal therapy, and other dental pulp treatments.
Dental Assistant
A dental assistant is a member of the dental healthcare team who collaborates closely with dentists and other team members to support them clinically and administratively. They carry out a variety of tasks that contribute to the smooth operation of dental offices and the provision of high-quality dental care to patients.
The clinical responsibilities of dental assistants also include the following:
- Sterilizing tools and equipment.
- Educating patients on oral hygiene and health.
- Supporting the dentist during operations.
- Taking and generating dental X-rays.
- Preparing patients for dental procedures.
Dental Hygienist
This endodontic position assists patients in maintaining good oral health by working with dentists and other professionals in dental offices or clinics.
To prevent and treat gum disease, tooth decay, and other dental issues, dental hygienists carry out a variety of tasks. Moreover, they offer preventive care, education, and counseling to help patients realize the value of oral hygiene and teach them how to take care of their teeth and gums.
Dental hygienists extensively clean gums and root surfaces during periodontal therapy. They remove plaque and tartar from teeth, apply preventive measures like fluoride and sealants, take dental X-rays, and clean teeth. Furthermore, they advise patients on oral health products and tell them about proper brushing and flossing procedures.
Dental Laboratory Technician
A dental laboratory technician, sometimes known as a dental technologist, is a competent dental practitioner who makes dental prosthetics, such as crowns, bridges, dentures, and orthodontic appliances.
Dental lab personnel follow dentists' prescriptions, which list the precise specifications for the prosthetic that they need to create. Then, they craft dental restorations tailored to fit each patient's mouth using sophisticated tools and methods.
A dental restoration is often created throughout several processes, including taking impressions of the patient's teeth and gums, making plaster models of teeth, constructing a wax restoration model, and fabricating the final product with porcelain or acrylic.
